New Mega Tunnel Project in Islamabad | Margalla Hills Twin Tunnels | The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has recently approved the Margalla Hills Twin Tunnels project to connect Islamabad (D-12 sector) with Haripur (Hazara Motorway M-15). This mega-project, which has been debated for years, aims to drastically cut the distance to just 8 kilometers and reduce travel time from over an hour to only 10-15 minutes. Construction is expected to start in December 2025 and conclude by December 2028, operating under a public-private partnership. The project is seen as a major boost for regional connectivity and the real estate market, but it also continues to face significant environmental concerns regarding its location within the protected Margalla Hills National Park.
