Impossible Rescue of Space Station After Power Failure | Salyut 7 | In 1985, the unmanned Soviet Salyut 7 space station went silent and dead due to a total power failure, leaving it tumbling and freezing in orbit with a risk of uncontrolled re-entry. Cosmonauts Vladimir Dzhanibekov and Viktor Savinykh flew the audacious Soyuz T-13 rescue mission, performing an extremely risky manual rendezvous and docking with the inert, spinning 19-ton station. They entered the ice-cold, dark spacecraft in winter gear, pinpointed a faulty electrical sensor, and slowly brought the station back to life, achieving one of the greatest feats of in-space repair in history.
